Desire: To construct a ascetically pleasing, environmentally sustainable exterior wall that can last the elements. TASK:Construct a 1:2 model incorporating a wall + window + roof/ eave using actual material elements. After construction test integrity with a hose, simulated rainfall for 5 minute period. Record the entire process. • Research • Sketches • Construction • Testing
We were able to use a window that would later be re-used in the farm house renovations. Before we placed the window on the wall we flashed the bottom of the window.
ReplyDeleteWe Flashed the window with 'Vespol' Aluminum flashing. This material is very workable and flexible to the desired flashing required.
ReplyDeleteThe tacked the 'Vespol' flashing to the inside side of the frame and then bent it around the frame to the exterior of the wall. It is important to carry the flashing up the side of the window frame to an extent and bend the corners of the flashing so that the water cannot enter the building at any point.
